About Us

Our Mission

The mission of the Moldova Legacy Foundation is to continue the kingdom work exemplified in the life of Bill and Deana Bowyer. Firmly convicted that a strong and vital local church is essential to bearing fruit in sharing God’s Word, the Foundation has three touch points with churches and leaders worldwide:

  • Supporting intensive and effective mission work and interaction      with local churches here and abroad
  • Challenging, developing, and nurturing the leadership of those      churches, including their families
  • Developing financial resources to support and endow the work of those local churches.

A Vision Made Reality

From his earliest days of ministry Bill Bowyer had a passion for missions and evangelism. After his initial exposure to the hunger and needs of churches around the world, Dr. Bowyer committed to respond and make a lasting difference   This commitment resulted in the completion of 43 global mission trips to countries around the world including such places such as El Salvador, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Russia. These trips were not mere traveling jaunts. Bill and his teams prepared diligently and ensured the time in these countries represented a substantial investment in the people they trained and equipped. The goal for each mission was to strengthen the local church by training the leadership and serving the members.

Continuing the Dream

With an unremitting passion, Bill carried out this work for decades, with full support from Deana and the remarkable support of their home church, Wake Cross Roads Baptist of Wake Forest, NC. Bill dreamed of making at least 50, and perhaps dozens more, such journeys to serve these churches with such great needs. He had a special love for the people of Moldova, and his initiatives there have resulted in the planting of several growing and evangelizing local churches. These great successes made it even more difficult to accept when Bill and Deana learned he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Throughout a heroic battle with his illness, Bill’s greatest anxiety, beyond leaving his loving family, was his inability to carry on his mission work.  With his passing, Deana and several of Bill’s closest ministry partners prayerfully sought the best way to build on his remarkable legacy. The concern was not so much to honor Bill the person but rather ensure the vital work his passion inspired is able to continue. These thoughts and discussions led to the creation of the Bill & Deana Moldova Legacy Foundation. Starting with the grateful donations presented at Bill’s Celebration of Life, the Foundation has developed a plan for encouraging and supporting ongoing work in Moldova and other nations.
